The Creation of the Elephant Parade London 2010

Herman Poort

  • Thursday 22th April '10
  • Friday 14th June '10
  • Past Exhibition.

Commissioned by charity organisation Elephant Parade, this exhibition showcases work by photographer Herman Poort.

Each portrait features an artist along with the painted model elephant they have chosen to decorate in support of the Elephant Parade campaign, a city-wide event to raise awareness for the plight of the Asian elephant.

It was by applying his unique sense of composition and pose in this series that Poort was able to capture the essence of both artist and elephant. In order to achieve an organic and uninhibited effect in the images, he insisted on shooting his subjects in a candid setting, almost entirely relying on natural light. He worked together with his subjects in order to find the perfect composition, resulting in this delightful limited edition series for Elephant Parade.

Those featured in this collection include both up-and-coming artists such as Emma Kemp, Milo Tchais and Pochoir, as well as established artists such as Marc Quinn, Jonathan Yeo and Jack Vettriano.

The collection is soon to be published in book form.
